By - Lalit SharmaCBSE has introduced one more elective course for Senior Secondary Classes, named as Applied Mathematics, from the academic session 2020-21. This course is mainly for the students of Arts and Commerce streams. Now, the obvious question alises: What is this Applied Mathematics all about? How is it different from the Core Mathematics (Mathematics meant for Science subjects)?
In fact, Applied Mathematics involves the application of mathematical methods to solve problems in various fields such as Commerce, Economics, Business, Medicines, Social Sciences, Computer Science, etc. In other words, Applied Mathematics is a combination of mathematical methods and specialised knowledge. It is the application of mathematics to real-world problems.
The difference between Core Mathematics and Applied Mathematics is that the former's main objective is to solve the problems for the sake of mathematics, while the later is used to solve real-world problems. In other words, Core Mathematics is fully abstract-thinking course, and Applied Mathematics is based on the application or Mathematical knowledge in real life and another discipline too. But, these two branches are made for each other.
As per the CBSE, the main objectives ofApplied Mathematics at Senior Secondmy Classes are:
The series A Textbook Of Applied Mathematics (Volume 1 and Volume 2) for Senior Secondary Classes is an exciting and innovative series, which has been developed to meet the objectives of Applied Mathematics discussed above. For each level, the course has been covered in two volumes— Volume I and Volume 2. This series is strictly made as per the syllabus for Applied Mathematics (subject code 241) recently released by the CBSE. The student-friendly series teaches Applied Mathematics in such an interesting and comprehensive manner that even an average student has no difficulty in grasping the fundamental concepts ofthe subject. The books in this series have been designed to develop substantial mathematical skills to solve the problems in the field of Business, Economics, Commerce, Social Science, etc.
