By - Shweta MittalData is meaningless until its conversion into valuable information. Data Science involves mining large datasets containing structured and unstructured data and identifying hidden patterns to extract actionable insights.
Data Science is one of the most popular emerging domains and most sought-after career options. Data Science is revolutionizing almost every industry and gaining popularity day by day. Data Science enables enterprises to measure, track, and record performance metrics for facilitating enhanced decision-making. Data Science is widely used in various industry domains, including marketing, healthcare, finance, banking, policy work, and more. That explains why Data Science is important.
some of the many Data science benefits include the following:
• In the healthcare industry, physicians use Data Science to analyze data from wearable trackers to ensure their patients’ well-being and make vital decisions.
• Retailers use Data Science to enhance customer experience and retention.
• Data Science is widely used in the banking and finance sectors for fraud detection and personalized financial services.
• Transportation providers use Data Science to enhance the transportation journeys of their customers.
• Construction companies use Data Science for better decision-making by tracking activities.
• Data Science enables trapping and analyzing massive data from manufacturing processes.
• Data Science facilitates firms to leverage social media content to obtain real-time media content usage patterns. This enables the firms to create target audience-specific content, measure content performance, and recommend
on-demand content.
• Data Science helps study utility consumption in the energy and utility domain.
With its footprint in practically every industry, Data Science job demand is estimated to rise several-fold in the future. The importance of Data Science is growing with every coming day.
The CBSE has introduced this subject for the students of classes 8 to 10 as a skill subject. I am pleased to present the Series on Data Science for the students of classes 8 to 10 strictly in accordance with the latest syllabus and content prescribed by the CBSE. The present book for class 9 is divided into two sections: Part a and Part B. Part A includes the “Employability skills” and Part B covers the “subject specific skills”.
In Part B, the first chapter introduces about data and its collection, analysis and interpretation. The difference between Data, Information, Knowledge and Wisdom (DIKW) model is explained. In the second chapter, the concept of variables and data types is given. Some data sources and big data is also explained. The third chapter gives the occasions of data visualization with examples. Some tools for data visualization are also mentioned. The fourth chapter gives some Excel use of data analysis and the fifth (last) chapter deals with ethics of data science. Ethical issues of data science related to human use is covered here.
The book presents the concepts in a very simple language with easy to understand examples adapted from day-to-day life. relevant figures and additional information have been provided in the form of Did you know. In the midst of the chapter, the students can assess themselves and challenge their understanding with the help of Check your knowledge and fun-filled activities. Towards the end of every chapter, Multiple-choice-questions, Fill in the blanks, true/False and short and long answer questions are given. The exercise includes hots (higher order thinking skills) and applied Projects, keeping in mind the practical value of the lessons learnt in data science.
One of the special feature of this book is topic-wise audio-video lectures through Qr codes by the subject experts. I hope that this book will meet the needs and requirements of the students and teachers as laid down in the syllabus. Any suggestion for further improvement of the book will be most welcomed.
