About the Book

A SENIOR ENGLISH GRAMMAR AND COMPOSITION has been designed and planned to meet th requirements of students studying in English Medium Schools in India, and provides three years work. Every aspect of English Grammar and Composition has been fully dealt with a view to teach the fundamentals and basic principles of Functional Grammar and Correct Usage. Carefully graded and planned exercises are added for class work. Their main aim is to help and guide Indian pupils to speak and write correct English.

Every attempt has been made to make the study of a dry subject like grammar appealing and interesting to young students. Special emphasis has been laid on teaching of the functional grammar and sentence structure rather than of formal grammar.

Lessons have been so devised as to correlate the teaching of functional grammar with the teaching of composition. Tests of the Objective Type and Multiple Choice Questions have been given throughout the book. All new items that have been prescribed for the Senior School Certificate Examination by the various boards in India have been carefully dealt with.

A new addition to the Senior English Grammar are the chapters on Writing Skills. They cover every aspect of writing skills and have been devised to correlate the teaching of Grammar and the Writing of Composition. They teach the young pupils to deal with the day to day problems and train them in all the communication skills needed when they step out in the world. Notices, messages, telegrams, advertisements, diary writings, reports, posters, paragraph writing, letter-writing, picture compositions, story telling, compositions have all been included. Compositions of all kinds and comprehension of unseen passages have incorporated the latest events.

It is confidently hoped that this thoroughly revised and improved edition, with its new features, will go a long way in enabling students to master thoroughly the fundamental skills of the English language and prepare them fully for the examinations of various boards in India.

This book is accompanied by a Teacher's Resource Book to provide every possible help to the teachers in their day to day teaching.
