The Subject of Accountancy gives a firm foundation to students in basic accounting principles and methodology. It aims to acquaint them with changes taking place in the presentation and analysis of accounting information. To further reinforce these objectives, the CBSE has introduced Project Work in Accountancy. This Project Work is expected to develop in students the skill to comprehend, analyse and interpret accounting data of the business firms and make meaningful business decisions. It will also help the students to develop competency to complete the accounting process in real life business situation and apply the tools of financial analysis. I am pleased to present my book Project Work in Accountancy for the students preparing for class XII CBSE Examinations. This book strictly conforms to the latest guidelines and syllabus prescribed by the CBSE. As per the latest syllabus, the students are required to prepare at least Two Specific Projects and One Comprehensive Project. This Project File will carry four marks and a Viva-Voce examination will carry four marks. There will also be a Written Test for one hour carrying twelve marks. Some salient features of this book are: • Detailed guidelines issued by CBSE have bccn included to makc the students aware of the Purposc and Scope of Project Work alongwith the Suggestive List of Topics. • Introduction to Project Work is given to guide students about the major steps to be followed in the preparation of a project in a systematic manner. • Proforma of the Project File indicates the essential formats to be fulfilled for the Preparation and Submission of Project File. • Six detailed Sample Specific Projects and Two Sample Comprehensive Projects are given on different topics. • Thorough research on each topic has been done with appropriate ratios, pie diagrams, Comparative and Common Size Statements as required. • Viva-Voce questions with answers have been provided at the end of each solved Specific and Comprehensive project. • General Questions and Sample Papers are given at the end to develop better understanding for compulsory written test. • Ten Specific Projects (Unsolved) and three Comprehensive Projects (Unsolved) have been given with outlines to help the students in reinforcing and learning the methodology of doing project work.
I have taken live examples from the industry to demonstrate the basis of the decision making in the critical situations. The process has been very lucidly explained. Projects on investment decisions have also been taken, particularly investment in shares of good companies. Projects on segment analysis are very interesting and inspire creativity. Through these projects student can identify as to which segment is not doing well and also which company is best for investment. I have ensured that the interest of students is sustained throughout the development of project. I am grateful to my daughter Dr. (Mrs) Rovika Prem, Associate Professor, Sri Aurobindo College, University of Delhi for the help extended by her in completion of this work. I hope this book will come upto the expectations of both the teachers and the students of the subject. I am particularly thankful to Sb. Dinesh Goyal and Sh. Suresh Goyal of Goyal Brothers Prakashau who encouraged me to write this book on projects and then published it for the benefit of the students and the teachers of the subject.
