series Of books entitled Mathematics Enrichment Lab Activities for Classes VI to X has been developed in strict accordance with the latest syllabus and Remodelled Scheme or Assessment prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary
Education, New Delhi.
While preparing these books, guidelines of the Remodelled Scheme of Assessment has been taken care of. As per this scheme, 5 marks (out of 100) have been allotted to subject Enrichment Activities. Also, the activities,'projects given in these books are based on the activities/projects given in the CBSE/NCERT books. The main objective of these activities is to make the teaching-learning process of Mathematics interesting, enjoyable and result-oriented. Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE) also suggests that the learning of Mathematics should be activity-oriented and every school must have a Mathematics laboratory to fulfill the above objective. The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) also lays emphasis on activity-oriented learning and recommends that teaching of Mathematics should aim to help students realise that Mathematics as a discipline relates to our experiences and is used in our daily life. I.arning Mathematics by classroom method sends a message that it is a set Of rules and to be learnt by heart and has no use in daily life. Learning by doing method disproves the above message. Going through the activities given in these books will enhance the truthfulness Of the statement that learning by doing method Of teaching Mathematics helps children understand mathematical concepts and apply them in related situations.
