The CISCE has introduced a new compulsory English Literature course, MODERN ENGLISH (891), for Classes XI and XII. Previously, the compulsory English course was ENGLISH (801). Now, students can choose between the two options—English (801) and Modern English (891)—according to their preferences.
This newly introduced MODERN ENGLISH (891) course aims to foster enjoyment and appreciation of literature through a critical study of selected literary works that connect deeply with Indian roots. Compared to the existing ENGLISH (801) syllabus, MODERN ENGLISH (891) is designed to be easier and more accessible, helping students perform better and achieve higher scores in exams.
